You are my sunshine

I knew March was going to be just as much fun as spreading February everywhere and leave it to Mermanda to figure out just what we'd do. The winter doom and gloom has us Midwesterners yearning for spring, but until then, we're gonna...Make your own sunshine March!

I received this email from a friend of mine in Tampa the other day:
Dear friends and family,

My birthday was last week and I have the perfect gift idea!

I'm helping to raise money for Big Brothers Big Sisters, and I would welcome your support! A group of my friends (all of whom have a little brother or sister) have formed a "Bowl for Kids' Sake" team. We'll be hitting the lanes on April 25th, but we need your help. Please consider donating to my personal fundraising website:

Any amount--large or small--will make a difference!

I can personally vouch that Big Brothers Big Sisters is a worthwhile organization. My little sister and I have been "matched" since October, and we're having a great time together. She's in seventh grade and loves to cook, go to the YMCA, and do anything creative. Although not a complete sports fan yet, she's adopted my Georgetown Hoyas since we saw them take on the University of South Florida basketball team here in Tampa last week.

An investment in a child is one worth making. I hope you can support me in this endeavor!

This email brought me sunshine, and yes, you have to overlook the fact that she is soliciting birthday gifts (good idea by the way) - but once you get past her narcissistic greed you realize it truly is for a wonderful cause. I used my shopping finger to donate to her web page and I thought to myself how adorable her lil' sis must look decked out in Hoyas Duke basketball gear (boo-ya!).

The point isn't to donate to this cause because it happens to be special to me (although I'm not stopping you) the point is...make your own sunshine this month! Donate your time, write someone a personalized letter, give someone a baby cow - whatever works.

Don't worry - I'll be reminding you. But grab the cute button if you're with me, Okay?
