Monday Movie Review

I feel as if the heavens (and Jennie) will furiously hurl spoiled tomatoes at me but...I did NOT like Away We Go.

The movie had it’s funny moments and some of the featured characters were hilarious – my favorite being Maggie Gyllenhaal. I’d almost recommend the movie for that scene alone. “A stroller? I love my babies, why would I want to PUSH them AWAY?” John Krasinsk is, as always, adorable but I found myself drifting off thinking about how Pam is also pregnant and she is going to be super pissed when she find out Jim knocked up ANOTHER chick. I think Pam is a scrapper, my money is on her.

::sigh::

If it makes you feel any better, I was also only mildly impressed with My Sister’s Keeper. We get it, the movie is about a neurotic mom and a girl who has cancer. My mom read the book and oh boy did they change the ending - the movie was so UNinteresting I am almost tempted to read the book. Except for all the crying. Yes, CRYING. I told you the movie was about CANCER. So of course there was crying – by you mostly, if you see it. I can’t say much else except for that the dad was SCRUMPTIOUS! Who is this man and why isn’t he on my husband-approved list of celebrities I would totally shag? Because he is now. Write that down.

Both movies were shot in a very weird way. They went to black in between scenes, which allowed me reflect on just how bored I was. Neither movie was very long, but my attention span (albeit short) definitely can be stimulated for a 90 minute run time (That’s What She Said).

It is killing me (KILLING ME) to say that Star Trek has been my most favoritist movie of the summer. So I won’t go all I love SPOCK on your asses. But you can infer, with your wise inferring skills, that the two movies I saw this weekend are not not not in the running.

Because, really, they're just not.

(And before you throw things, the NY Times didn't like it either)

I actually haven't seen either of these movies, so I won't throw anything. One review I read compared My Sister's Keeper to The Notebook, so I will probably be staying far, far away from that movie.

well they both involve crying.. but I actually liked The Notebook.

Away We Go was compared to Juno. Um, no. please don't.

Heidi and I watched The Notebook and couldn't stop laughing, including at the end when she died. Although, that might have had something to do with all the wine we drank before and during the movie.

I'm going to comment more on your blog from now on because you being sad on The Collective today made me sad and also I am a comment whore so I totally understand about how you want comments ALL THE TIME.

I refuse to see My Sister's Keeper even though they changed the ending. (Star Trek has been my favorite movie so far as well. YUMMY.)

I will never, ever see My Sister's Keeper because I hate being emotionally manipulated, and Hallmark commercials make me cry.

However, I really liked Defamer's review:

This was the weekend's other "big" opener, a Jodi Piccoult weeper starring the strangely-cast Cameron Diaz and Jason Patric. Oh, plus Alec Baldwin, Abigail Breslin, the kid from Sarah Connor, and some other girl. It's about disease and dying and family and responsibility. But mostly it is about weeping. Yes, weeping in offices, weeping in cars, weeping at dinner tables, weeping in bedrooms, weeping with your arms outstretched as you ride a bicycle or something, weeping as you hug someone, weeping as you don't hug someone, weeping while on the can, weeping while not on the can, weeping for the future, weeping for the past, weeping for the ticket prices, weeping for the always-awkward moment when everyone has to shuffle out of the theater at the end of a sad movie (how are you supposed to act? so awkward!), weeping for pretty much everything there ever was. Mostly, weeping for yourself.

What exactly would it entail for you to go all 'I love SPOCK' on my ass?

Also, this blog is boring. There. Happy now?

My brother told me how the book My Sister's Keeper ends. His wife read it and told him about it. It sounds HILARIOUS. If the movie doesn't end exactly the same way, I have no interest in it. Honestly, every movie should end that way. Thanks, Sliding Doors!

Also, STAR TREK kicked ass. I'm not even a big Trek fan, but I thought it was fantastic. Easily the best movie of the summer so far.

I've heard the movie ending is different.

(Psst, I still don't want to see Star Trek. Hee.)
